Can I relate to your group?

E-mail Print PDF

In my twelve years of providing tours in the national parks, I have spoken to diverse groups such as grade school classes, middle school, high school, church groups, foreign exchange students, seniors, environmental groups, Boy & Girl Scout groups, etc.  More than likely, I have already spoken to a group like yours.

As a park ranger, the National Park Service stresses that naturalists, including me, aim their program for a diverse audience, or in other words, a wide variety of people.  A typical park program includes wide selection of people such as families, seniors, kids, international visitors, college students, newlyweds, etc.  Their religious beliefs can be anything, such as Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, agnostic, atheist, new age, etc.  Their political beliefs span the entire spectrum from conservative, moderate, and liberal.  Therefore, we cannot be political.  We receive all levels of income and education.  We receive park visitors who have PhDs and others who have not even graduated from high school.  Therefore, we have to design our ranger programs in a way that everyone can feel welcome and they can understand the message, regardless of their background.  I plan on continuing along this same track for my climate change comedian program.  My program is for a diverse audience.  Everyone is invited to my program, even if they disagree with me about the scientific evidence for climate change.

What is my Service

My program includes:
a. Education: I educate on the basic science of climate change that is easy to understand.

b. Entertain: I use appropriate humor to inform my audience on the problem and solutions to climate change.

c. Interaction:  I do not lecture.  I encourage my audience to ask questions.  I encourage laughter.  I also ask questions before and during my program to get to know my audience.

d. Inspiration: My goal is to use all the tools of communication and comedy that I know to create a spark in my audience so they will enthusiastic to take action to resolve climate change.

I Help your group:
a. Save Money:  I will show that going green and investing in green ideas will save you money in the long run.  GREEN MEANS GREEN.

b. Get more clients: If your business can invest in some green ideas, you will attract upscale, eco-conscious consumers who want to patron green businesses such as yours.

c. Get motivation-hope-inspiration: Going green is a great way to motivate your business to strive for higher goals and have greater pride in your organization.

d. Exchange of ideas.  I want to learn from you too.  I am filled with ideas, but I am eager to hear what you think of going green too.  What are your ideas?  Criticisms?   I strongly believe in the Ralph Waldo Emerson, "In my walks, every man I meet is my superior in some way, and in that I learn from him."  In every program I do, I always learn something from my audience.

e. Distinguish between: green washing and genuine green.  There are so many organizations who are claiming to be green.  Are they really green or just doing ‘greenwashing’?  We will talk about some the firms who are keeping track who is being genuinely green and who is not.  (Kind of like a green Santa Claus.  Ho! Ho! Ho!)

Who is my audience?

In one word: everyone.  If I can use another one word: diverse.  Or even another one word: you.  Like my park ranger programs that I have performed for the past twelve years, this climate change program is designed to be understandable for all ages, backgrounds, education levels, political beliefs, etc.  For those who accept the science of climate change, I hope to inspire them to really take action.  For those who are skeptical of the problem of climate change, I want to still share what I know in a manner that might be able to alleviate some of their criticisms.  I still hope skeptics/deniers of climate change can leave my program still feeling like they were entertained.  I want the deniers to be able to walk away saying, “I still do not really buy into that global warming stuff, but I did have a good time tonight.  I may even try a few of those ideas to help me save money and lower my energy bill.”

What can I do for you?

My goal is to give a one hour power point presentation to businesses, individuals, social clubs, churches, schools or wherever I can speak.  Heck, I am even tempted to perform on street corners, if it could prove to be an effective means to inspire people to resolve climate change.  My presentation would involve explaining the science of climate change.  However, I want to explain it in a manner that is easy and fun to understand.   During the first half of my program, I want to seriously provide the information on how dangerous man-induced climate change is for us and our children.  During the second half, I want to provide the solutions to climate change.  I want to demonstrate that the solutions are not as painful as getting a dental root canal or an IRS audit.  Or, even worse a colonoscopy.  Ouch!  Anyway, the solutions can be easy, as well as a deeper life-changing commitment, but they will ultimately save you money (that kind of green) in the long run.  Even better, if you follow my solutions, you will be filled with pride as you did your best to save your children’s home planet, Earth.  Your kids will then not curse your name someday.
