In my twelve years of providing tours in the national parks, I have spoken to diverse groups such as grade school classes, middle school, high school, church groups, foreign exchange students, seniors, environmental groups, Boy & Girl Scout groups, etc. More than likely, I have already spoken to a group like yours.
As a park ranger, the National Park Service stresses that naturalists, including me, aim their program for a diverse audience, or in other words, a wide variety of people. A typical park program includes wide selection of people such as families, seniors, kids, international visitors, college students, newlyweds, etc. Their religious beliefs can be anything, such as Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, agnostic, atheist, new age, etc. Their political beliefs span the entire spectrum from conservative, moderate, and liberal. Therefore, we cannot be political. We receive all levels of income and education. We receive park visitors who have PhDs and others who have not even graduated from high school. Therefore, we have to design our ranger programs in a way that everyone can feel welcome and they can understand the message, regardless of their background. I plan on continuing along this same track for my climate change comedian program. My program is for a diverse audience. Everyone is invited to my program, even if they disagree with me about the scientific evidence for climate change.
